Brulerie St Denis
3967 rue Saint-Denis, Montreal
Quebec, Canada

A bit of an institution is the Brulerie St Denis. Funnily enough it is located on rue St Denis in Montreal and serves and excellent cup. Enough of the obvious, let’s talk about the cafe and it’s coffee.
The interior is divided into two halves; the nice area where they roast and sell beans by the bag, and the other area that looks like a retro fitted Burger King. It’s all cheap furniture and formica counters. A bit off putting if you ask me. Anne assured me that they are quite good and I took a seat in the back corner to observe the cafe and its clientelle. I ordered an espresso for here and waited with pursed lips while the aroma of freshly roasted, ground and brewed coffee teased my ofactory senses.
My espresso arrived and all looked good. There was only a hint of crema, but as put cup to lips I recognised the quality of what I was sipping. The coffee had a nice round body to it and just a hint of acidity. Pretty good in anyones books.
I’d give it a 4, but feel that I must take off a point for the ambiance of the cafe. The part that I sat in seriously lacked any.
