Fanny Boulangerie Artisanale Et Patisserie
5526, rue Frontenac, Lac-Mégantic,
Quebec, Canada

There is a new sheriff in town, and he is one of the good guys. We have watched Fanny being built over the past month or so and were excited when we saw a roasting machine in the foyer. Read on…

The roasting machine is just a prop!! We found this out after our first visit and were dismayed. “Noooooo” we screamed, fists clenched and voices raised to the heavens. Regardless we soldiered on and ordered two lattes and some freshly baked goodies. See the Fanny is firstly a bakery and then a cafe. The bread is excellent for the area and we pleasantly surprised to find sourdoughs, barleys and organic breads on offer. A great change from the usual French breads available locally (I am soooo sick of baguette).

Side Note:
The definition of “Fanny” in Australia is where babies come from. So to say that there are buns in the oven at the Fanny is mildly amusing.

The coffee? Well, Anne-Renee and I are torn here. Anne thinks that the Fanny has the best coffee in town. I reckon the quality of crema and froth at the Musi-Café are superior and that the roast is better at the Bleu Marin. Fanny is a nice blend of both, but better than neither.

So, if you’re looking for a break from Baguettes and Filter Coffee the Fanny may be the place you’d want to visit in Lac-Megantic.

PS: They have a fireplace in the middle of the eating area, handy for those cold cold cold northern winters, springs, falls, and summers.
